What exactly is Dubai Design District?

Earlier this week His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the creation of a commercial fashion district adjacent to Business Bay. The area, to be called Dubai Design District, will be dedicated to the Emirate’s fashion, design and luxury sectors.

Who will be operating Dubai Design District?

Dubai Design District will be operated by TECOM Investments, a member of Dubai Holding. TECOM announced that businesses wishing to operate in the Dubai Design District can secure licences from any of TECOM’s nine other free zones.

When will it be complete?

As of now, there hasn’t been much clarity about when the district will be complete—but the developers say they aim to complete phase one by 2015. TECOM says currently there are ten buildings being constructed. The body said it had invested Dh4 billion in the first phase of the project.

What kind of units will be available in the district?

Dubai Design District will offer residential, commercial, retail and hospitality real estate. In addition, the area will feature a creek side promenade which will be home to international and boutique hotels, distinct public spaces, and a convention centre.
