Al Wasl Club UAE’s First Air Conditioned Stadium

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Al-WasI Football Club was founded in 1960 and officially acknowledged in 1974. The club is located in Zabeel, Dubai. Initially the stadium has capacity to accommodate 15,000 audiences. According to UAE official news agency WAM (Wakalat Anba'a al Emarat), the Foot Ball Club Owner Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum recently ordered on Tuesday to increase current capacity of the stadium to 25,000 audiences, with plans to make this stadium fully air conditioned and constructing special boxes for VIP guests and media persons. The Dubai Sports Council has got assigned the responsibility to coordinate with Al WasI to complete this task of renovation and stadium expansion. It is expected once this project is successfully completed; other stadiums will follow the same developmental pathway to enhance stadium facilities.

Few years back Qatar a neighboring Gulf Country was planning to build a fully air conditioned stadium in year 2002 at the event of world cup. But the architectural designing firm canceled this air conditioning project. Because the architect John Barrow, stated that installing air-conditioning systems on such a large scale is not a practical and cost effective solution to improve audience attendance in matches.

Despite of all these facts and figure, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has taken such a bold decision just to increase the crowd in football matches especially during the summer season when temperature hits 50 degree Celsius.
