A collection of seven artificial islands, The Lagoons are linked to each other and consist of residential apartments, office buildings, shopping malls, five-star hotels and resorts, a museum, marinas, and Dubai's first opera house.

Also found in this district is Dubai Festival City (DFC), a large residential, business and entertainment development and the Middle East's largest mixed-use project. On completion, DFC is expected to comprise a series of residential communities, numerous hotels, malls, a golf course, entertainment sites, and schools.
