Deira District

Deira District is located on the east of main city and situated on the other side of Dubai Creek. Its borders touch Mirdiff in south and Sharjah in east. The district was known as center of Dubai as it was possessing major commercial and financial centers of the emirate. But later with time the emirate build other parts and Bur Dubai has gained more importance over other areas of the city. And Bur Dubai is now considered as the business center of the city. It does not mean that Deira has totally lost its importance; it is still famous for its traditional souks and traditional trading system, which include transportation of goods via wooden ships. Besides this, it also has number of eye catching tourist attractions, skyscrapers and super luxury hotels. This district in well connected with rest of city via Shindagha tunnel and two bridges the Al Maktoum Bridge and Al Garhoud Bridge.

Deira is one of the most active areas in the city as it possesses numerous office complexes, shopping malls and residential building complexes. The district also clustered most of the government offices, banks and foreign embassies. Almost all residential and commercial buildings are built according to modern architectural design and represent the real picture of the emirate as the place full of architectural wonders. Deira Tower, Al Futtam Mosque and Al Ghurair Shopping Center are few of the most remarkable places of the district. Whereas famous family entertainment places here include Ice Rink at Galleria and Mamzar Beach Park. This area is also known as the home place of traditional Arab Gold and Spice souks. The Gold Souk consists of 300 shops, which exclusively deals in gold and diamond jewelry. Major reason of such massive popularity of such souks that they are tax free and allow buyers to purchase gold at much lower prices comparing any place in the world. Other souks of Deira include spice and perfume souks that are also heaven for shoppers all over the world. Moreover, Dubai International Airport is also located in this district making this area much busier with heavy traffic running. Traffic becomes very annoying especially on weekends.

Deira is very famous among young couples and singles and it is not considered ideal for families. Families can have terrific time here by visiting parks, beaches and shopping malls located in this area. Major accommodation options include villas and apartments. Local residents occupy almost all villas in this district, whereas migrant workers and expats can accommodate them in apartment complexes. Famous areas of this district are Umm Ramool, Qusais, Nahda, Nadd Shamma, Mamzar, and Twar. Moreover, the world famous Dubai Airport Free Zone is also located in Deira, which is known to provide state-of-the-art modern facilities like meeting rooms, a business park, retail outlets and conference halls for business and trade persons.
