Dubai Marina

The area.

The Marina is a great place to live, a self-contained community with everything you need close at hand. There is Dubai Marina Mall, Skydive Dubai, JBR beach, lots of supermarkets, restaurants and the Marina Walk – a seven-mile waterfront promenade which is quite unique in Dubai. Many residents make use of the running track that loops around the marina over bridges and takes in stunning views of the water, luxury yachts and charter boats. The Beach at JBR, an open-air mall, is just a short walk away and has an outdoor cinema, cafés, restaurants, salons, and boutique shops. The Marina really comes to life at night. The boats and buildings are brightly lit and the restaurants are busy – you feel like you’re on holiday.

Your living options.

People wanting to move to Dubai Marina look for a quality apartment, great facilities, and good maintenance. Many buildings there are built by Emaar Properties and they have good gyms, swimming pools, and squash courts; other high-profile developers include Cayan Group and Select Group. Prominent buildings include Dubai Marina Towers, Park Island, and Marina Promenade, and everyone knows the landmark Cayan Tower, which launched in 2013 and is known as the "‘twisty tower". Dubai Marina is versatile in terms of apartment size – you can find studios, apartments with between one and eight bedrooms, and penthouses. There are some villas, mostly in Dubai Marina Towers, Park Island and Dorra Bay, with views of the marina and the sea.

Look forward to.

There is still a lot of land to be developed here, so more buildings will come on to the market to meet demand.

Getting around.

The area is great for walking and cycling. Damac Metro and JLT Metro are situated at either end and taxis are never far away. Traffic can be busy but the new tramline is a great way of getting around the area without delays, for both tourists and residents alike.

Best for.

Everyone, especially expats new to Dubai and families. You’ll find some buildings grouped around a safe courtyard, which are great for families with small children. There are kids’ play areas under shady bridges and nurseries. For single people and couples Dubai Marina has a great social scene during the day and night, with shops, restaurants and the beach nearby.

Meet the neighbours.

British expat Tanya Pearson has lived in her one-bedroom apartment in Blakely Tower, Park Island, for one year.

"I moved to Dubai Marina because a lot of expats live there, and unlike other areas it is well established with a community feel. Another factor is that everything is close to hand, with many great amenities. While there is a lot of traffic, everything you need is nearby and easy to walk to: I can walk to the beach, pop downstairs for coffee and choose from plenty of restaurants. JBR has finished off the community really nicely, with the Beach Mall and its restaurants and cinema. Rent can be very high – mine has increased 30% in the last year – but you do get a great quality of life, everything on your doorstep and amazing views. A lot of my friends live here, too, so Dubai Marina is a sociable place for me to live."
