The 10 best schools in Abu Dhabi in 2023

Choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions that you can make as a parent. Not only does it impact the quality of your children's education, but it often has a significant bearing on where you choose to live. We've put together this post to show you the 10 best schools in Abu Dhabi in 2023.

Defining the best schools is of course difficult. The needs of parents and their children will inevitably vary based upon their personal views, background, experiences and requirements, so any evaluation is bound to be subjective.

The most obvious way to decide the best schools in Abu Dhabi is to look at the rating assigned to each school, based on the biennial inspection process conducted on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Schools’ Regulator, ADEK – the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge. Schools are rated on six key performance standards, using a standardized process that is increasingly being used across the UAE.

What do the ratings mean?

In order to standardise school inspections, ADEK introduced a new unified inspection framework in 2015. The biggest alteration was the switch from the “traditional” alpha/numeric inspection ratings of A1-C7 to a new, “simplified,” ranking of Outstanding through to Very Weak. This modification also provided additional information.

  • Outstanding: Quality of performance substantially exceeds the expectation of the UAE
  • Very Good: Quality of performance exceeds the expectation of the UAE
  • Good: Quality of performance meets the expectation of the UAE (This is the expected level for every school in the UAE)
  • Acceptable: Quality of performance meets the minimum level of quality required in the UAE (This is the minimum level for every school in the UAE)
  • Weak: Quality of performance is below the expectation of the UAE
  • Very Weak: Quality of performance is significantly below the expectation of the UAE
